Put your new website on your domain at Cloudflare
About 10 minutes. You change three settings at Cloudflare. Your domain stays where it is and your email keeps working. Your panel checks each setting for you as you make it.
You need two things: the email and password you use for Cloudflare, and your SiteSmith panel open in another window. You copy your site's address from its Domain tab.
The three settings
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | www | your site's address — copy it from the Domain tab of your panel |
| A | @ | 137.66.50.77 |
| AAAA | @ | 2a09:8280:1:0:0:1a0:bb93:0 |
@ means the domain itself; some screens call it the "host" or leave it blank. Leave every other setting exactly as it is: your email depends on them.
Step by step
Log in to Cloudflare
Go to dash.cloudflare.com and click Log in, with the email and password you use for Cloudflare. If Cloudflare asks for a code, enter it the way you usually do.
Open your domain
You see a list of your domains. Click your domain name, here yourbusiness.com. No list? Click Domains on the left first.

Tap the picture to see it bigger. Open the DNS records
On the left, click DNS, then Records. You see a table with the columns Type, Name, Content and Proxy status.

Tap the picture to see it bigger. Open the www record
Find the line whose Name is www. Click Edit at the end of that line.
No www line? Click Add record, choose the type CNAME and type www in Name.
Is the type of the www line A or AAAA instead of CNAME? Click Edit, then Delete, then Delete again. Then add a new one as above.
Tap the picture to see it bigger. Point www at your site, and set it to DNS only
In Target, delete what is there and paste your site's address from the Domain tab of your panel.
Under Proxy status, click the switch so it says DNS only and the cloud is grey. An orange cloud with Proxied is wrong here.
Click Save.
Tap the picture to see it bigger. Change the A record for your domain, also DNS only
Find the line of type A whose Name is your domain name, yourbusiness.com. Cloudflare shows your domain name where other companies show @. Click Edit.
In IPv4 address, replace what is there with the A address from the table above. Set Proxy status to DNS only (grey cloud). Click Save.
No A line for your domain? Click Add record, choose A and type @ in Name. If Cloudflare says a record with that name already exists, your domain has a CNAME line: delete that one first (Edit, Delete, Delete again).
Tap the picture to see it bigger. Add the AAAA record, also DNS only
Click Add record. For Type, choose AAAA. In Name, type @. In IPv6 address, paste the AAAA address from the table above.
Under Proxy status, make sure it says DNS only with a grey cloud; if it says Proxied, click the switch. Click Save.
Is there already an AAAA line for yourbusiness.com? Click Edit on it instead and change its address.
Tap the picture to see it bigger. Look for three grey clouds
The three lines for your new site, A, AAAA and www, each say DNS only with a grey cloud. If one says Proxied with an orange cloud, click Edit on it, click the switch to DNS only, and click Save.
Is there a second A or AAAA line for yourbusiness.com, with an older address? Delete it: Edit, Delete, Delete again.
Tap the picture to see it bigger. Check it in your panel
Open the Domain tab in your panel and click Check my settings again. Each setting says done once the internet sees it, often within minutes, sometimes up to an hour. We email you the moment your new site shows on your domain.
Good to know
DNS only (grey cloud) is the one setting that matters most at Cloudflare. With the orange cloud (Proxied), Cloudflare gives out its own addresses instead of ours: your panel keeps saying not yet and your new site may not get its secure padlock.
Cloudflare may show a warning that a DNS only record reveals an address. For these three records that is expected; you can leave it.
Leave every other line as it is, for example the ones of type MX and TXT: they carry your email. Do not change your nameservers.
Does Cloudflare first show a list of accounts? Click the one that has your domain.
No Cloudflare sign-in of your own (a web designer set it up), or Cloudflare says your domain is managed by a hosting partner? Ask in your panel's Help tab and we sort it out with you.
Stuck, or not sure?
Open the Help tab in your panel and write what you see, in your own words. We answer within minutes and walk you through it.
Changed your mind? Your panel keeps today's settings. Put them back at Cloudflare and your old website returns, usually within an hour. If you turned off a forwarding or a connection on the way, turn it back on too.
