Your domain, step by step

Put your new website on your domain at Hostinger

About 15 minutes. You change three settings at Hostinger. Your domain stays where it is and your email keeps working. Your panel checks each setting for you as you make it.

You need one thing: the email and password of your Hostinger account, the one you use to pay for your website or domain there. Hostinger now calls its control panel the Hostinger dashboard; it used to be called hPanel.

The three settings

TypeNameValue
CNAMEwwwyour site's address — copy it from the Domain tab of your panel
A@137.66.50.77
AAAA@2a09:8280:1:0:0:1a0:bb93:0

@ means the domain itself; some screens call it the "host" or leave it blank. Leave every other setting exactly as it is: your email depends on them.

Step by step

  1. Log in to Hostinger

Go to hostinger.com and click the little person at the top right. It means Log in. Sign in with your Hostinger email and password. Your Hostinger dashboard opens.

Hostinger's home page with the person icon at the top right circled; it means Log in
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  2. If your website is at Hostinger: turn off Hostinger CDN

Hostinger CDN is a speed service. While it is on, Hostinger locks the settings you are about to change. On the left, click Websites, then Dashboard next to your website. Open Performance, then CDN. If you see a Disable button, click it and wait about five minutes. If you see no Disable button, or your website is not at Hostinger, go on to the next step.

  3. Open Domains, then DNS

On the left, click Domains. A short list opens under it. Click DNS.

Hostinger dashboard with Domains open on the left and DNS circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  4. Choose your domain

Under Pick a domain to manage, click Select a domain and choose your domain. Hostinger opens its DNS records. At the top you see Manage DNS records; the list of your records is below it.

Hostinger's DNS Zone Editor with the domain list open and yourbusiness.com circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  5. Delete the old www line

In the Search box above the list, type www. On the line whose Name is www, click the red trash can. Hostinger asks you to confirm: click Delete. If there is also a line of type A named www, delete it the same way. No www line at all? Go on to the next step.

Hostinger's record list filtered to www, with the red trash can on the CNAME www line circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  6. Add the www record

Go back up to Manage DNS records. For Type choose CNAME. In Name type www. In Target paste your site's address from the Domain tab of your panel. Leave TTL as it is. Click Add Record. Hostinger saves the record right away; there is no separate save button.

Hostinger's Manage DNS records form filled in with CNAME, www and the site's address, and the Add Record button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  7. Delete the old A and AAAA lines for @

Clear the Search box so the whole list shows. Find every line of type A whose Name is @, and every line of type AAAA whose Name is @. Delete each one: red trash can, then Delete. Leave every other line as it is. (If your panel told you to set only the www record for now, stop here and go to the last step.)

Hostinger's record list with the A and AAAA lines named @ marked for deletion, and the MX and TXT lines left alone
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  8. Add the A record

At the top, under Manage DNS records: for Type choose A. In Name type @. In Value paste the A address from the table above. Leave TTL as it is. Click Add Record.

Hostinger's Manage DNS records form filled in with type A, name @ and the A address, and the Add Record button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  9. Add the AAAA record

Same again: for Type choose AAAA. In Name type @. In the box next to it paste the AAAA address from the table above. Click Add Record. Now the list has one A line and one AAAA line named @, both with our addresses.

  10. Check it in your panel

Open the Domain tab in your panel and click Check my settings again. Each setting says done once the internet sees it, often within minutes, sometimes up to an hour. We email you the moment your new site shows on your domain.

Good to know

If your email is at Hostinger and the Domain tab of your panel says your email is delivered to your domain itself, set only the www record for now; we contact you about the email side before the other two.

Do not change your nameservers, or any line of type MX or TXT. Those carry your email.

If you turned off Hostinger CDN in step 2, leave it off. Turning it back on makes Hostinger replace the www and @ records with its own.

Deleted the wrong line? The DNS history tab at the top of the same page lists earlier versions of your settings, each with a Restore button. Or ask in your panel's Help tab and we put it right with you.

Stuck, or not sure?

Open the Help tab in your panel and write what you see, in your own words. We answer within minutes and walk you through it.

Changed your mind? Your panel keeps today's settings. Put them back at Hostinger and your old website returns, usually within an hour. If you turned off a forwarding or a connection on the way, turn it back on too.
