Your domain, step by step

Customer sign-in

Put your new website on your domain at Wix

About 15 minutes. You change three settings at Wix. Your domain stays where it is and your email keeps working. Your panel checks each setting for you as you make it.

You need two things: the email and password you use to sign in to Wix, and your site's address from the Domain tab of your panel. Your domain stays registered at Wix, and your old Wix website stays in your Wix account.

The three settings

TypeNameValue
CNAMEwwwyour site's address — copy it from the Domain tab of your panel
A@137.66.50.77
TXT_fly-ownershipapp-z3wz053

@ means the domain itself; some screens call it the "host" or leave it blank. Leave every other setting exactly as it is: your email depends on them.

Step by step

  1. Sign in to Wix

Go to wix.com and click Log In at the top right. Sign in the way you always do for your Wix website.

Wix's home page with the Log In button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  2. Open your Domains page

Click the address bar at the top of your browser, type manage.wix.com/account/domains and press Enter. You see your website, with your domain under it. Click the round button with three dots on the right of your domain.

Wix's Domains page: the website Your Business with yourbusiness.com under it, and the three-dots button next to the domain circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  3. Open the DNS records

A menu opens. Click Manage DNS records. You see your domain's settings in groups: A (Host), CNAME (Aliases) and more further down.
Leave Unassign from this site alone: you do not need it.

The Domain Actions menu open, with Manage DNS records circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  4. Open the www setting

Scroll to the group called CNAME (Aliases). Point at the line whose Host name starts with www, and click the blue Edit button that appears. A message about editing DNS records opens: click Got it.

The CNAME (Aliases) group with the www line, and its Edit button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  5. Put in your site's address

Leave www in the Host name box. Click the Value box, delete what is in it, and paste your site's address from the Domain tab of your panel. Click Save. A message opens: click Save Changes.

The www line open for editing, your site's address typed in the Value box, and the Save button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  6. Change the first A setting

Go up to the group called A (Host). Point at the first line and click Edit, then Got it. Leave the Host name box empty: at Wix, empty means the domain itself (the @ in the table). In the Value box, delete what is there and type the A address from the table above. Click Save, then Save Changes.

The first line of the A (Host) group open for editing, the A address typed in the Value box, and the Save button circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  7. Delete the other A settings

Wix usually has two or three lines in A (Host). Each one left over still sends some visitors to your old Wix website. On every line except the one you changed, click the three dots on the right, then Delete, then Delete Record. When you are done, A (Host) has one line: yours.

The A (Host) group with two lines: the changed one marked Keep this one, and the menu of the old line open with Delete circled
Tap the picture to see it bigger.
  8. Add the TXT setting

Wix has no place for an AAAA setting, so you add one TXT line instead: it does the same job. Scroll down to TXT and click + Add Record. Under Host Name, type _fly-ownership (with the line at the start). Under Value, type the TXT value from the table above. Click Save, then Save Changes. Leave the TXT lines that were already there exactly as they are.

  9. Check it in your panel

Open the Domain tab in your panel and click Check my settings again. Each setting says done once the internet sees them, often within an hour. Wix says a change can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone. We email you the moment your new site shows on your domain.

Good to know

Your domain can stay assigned to your Wix website: Wix's own instructions for pointing a Wix domain somewhere else do not ask you to unassign it.

After these changes, Wix may say your domain is not connected to your site, and show you its own records to put back. That is expected. Do not put Wix's records back: that brings your old Wix website back on your domain.

No www line under CNAME (Aliases)? Click + Add Record in that group, type www as the Host name and your site's address as the Value. If Wix says Hostname already in use, stop and ask in your panel's Help tab.

Do not change your Nameservers, any line under MX, or the TXT lines that were there before. Those carry your email, including a Wix mailbox if you have one.

Your domain stays registered at Wix, so keep it renewing there. Thinking of cancelling your Wix website plan? Ask in your panel's Help tab first, so your domain and email are not caught up in it.

Stuck, or not sure?

Open the Help tab in your panel and write what you see, in your own words. We answer within minutes and walk you through it.

Changed your mind? Your panel keeps today's settings. Put them back at Wix and your old website returns, usually within an hour. If you turned off a forwarding or a connection on the way, turn it back on too.
